2015 Audi R8 Convertible Review Changes

The 2015 Audi R8 Convertible maintains its special status as a midengine exotic sports car that you can drive every day of the week. The 2015 Audi R8 Convertible is approachable, comfortable, and incredibly fun to drive. This year a few updates get the most out of the last year of production for this generation. Though due to be replaced by an all-new model soon, the current R8 is no less attractive as a do-it-all, every day supercar. Upgrades to the interior are conveniently packaged to start, then essentially limitless through Audi's personalization services. The 2015 Audi R8 Convertible has always been a rather stunning-looking car, so our hopes were that Audi did not completely scrap the design and start all over again. Fortunately, our wishes were granted, as the initial images we have received show a car that is only slightly different than the one we see now.

2015 Audi R8 Convertible Engine

The 2-seat, mid-engine 2015 Audi R8 Convertible sports car is offered in Coupe and Spyder body styles, in V8, V10 and V10 Plus trims. The 4.2L V8 produces 430 hp and 317 lb-feet of torque, while the 5.2L V10 delivers 525 hp and 391 lb-feet of torque. In the V10 Plus, that same engine cranks out 550 hp and 398 lb-feet of torque. Audi states that the V10 Plus coupe is capable of hitting 60 mph in just 3.7, on its way to a 198-mph top speed.

All engines are paired with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, while an all-new dual-clutch S-Tronic automated manual transmission is optional. All 2015 Audi R8 Convertible models benefit from quattro all-wheel drive. Dial the R8 into sport mode and it comes alive. Smooth and capable on the street, it's devoid of the jerky transmission shifts it used to offer with an automated-manual gearbox it ditched in 2014. The car comes alive on the track in sport mode, where the dual-clutch hard-wires itself to the driver's brain, and the all-wheel-drive system delivers all the innate balance the layout implies.

2015 Audi R8 Convertible Interior

The 2015 Audi R8 Convertible has a finely crafted cabin with top-notch materials. The lightweight seats are comfortable for long-distance travel, and the driving position suits a wide range of people -- not a given in this class. We like the center stack's elegant swoop away from the driver, but this means that some controls require an inconvenient reach. You can select from a wide array of color options to make the interior suit your personality. The entire interior is accented throughout with chrome strips and black accent paint. As available options, you can get high beam assistance, stowage package, travel case sets, cell phone preparation with seatbelt microphone and voice control.
